I had big plans for this week’s post . . . but a week of novel writing, work and a sick kiddo put a halt to it. So instead, I’m sharing this poem with you. Hope it brings you some joy.

AKA A Busy Lady

Secrets of the Tide

The ocean is
pushing and pulling,
unforgiving tides
that will suck you under
if you don’t pay attention.

Children dig their tiny fingers into the sand,
discovering the magic of starfish,
mermaid hair . . .
remnants of another world
only they can see.

Tell me, have you ever stopped to look and listen?
Or are you tangled in the web of your mind?
When oceans rise, whose name do you call?
Who do you think about in the silence of ticking clocks?
What shadows come adrift in the undertow?

Time, like the tide, is unforgiving,
pulling us forward, never looking back,
erasing footprints and castles in the sand,
in one swoop.

Waves push and pull, their promise
whispered in rhythmic lulls
of ocean breath. . .
Not all days will bask in light.

Yet still, there is hope.

Because always, as the tide rolls in,
the tide rolls out.

And somewhere, beyond the horizon, a rose blooms.
