It’s Week Two of National Poetry Month!
Today, I’m sharing another poem from my teens/early twenties. I wrote this one at twenty years old. I don’t really remember when or why—I was writing a lot during this time. But it’s one of my favorites. Enjoy!
Bones
You are bones
Covered with flesh
And skin to hold you in.
You are nerves
And cells
And organs
A heart that beats.
But that is not all you are.
You are essence.
A soul, a purpose,
Despite how you may appear.
What you are
Is who you are,
In dim lights
And reactions to fear.
You are not merely bones.
You are a purpose
A being of life
From which
A breeze of breath
God breathed into you
To pursue this journey.
To make you
ALIVE
Till Next Time,
Sarah
