It’s Week 4 of National Poetry Month!
I’ve been having so much fun going through all of my old poetry! This week, I chose a handful of my shorter poems that are my favorites. All of these were written between the ages of 14-20 years of age.
Here they are! And in the meantime—do you write poetry? Have you ever looked back at things you wrote a long time ago and see them in a new way? If so, share in the comments if you’d like!
Hot Shot
Three dollars in my pocket,
The heat is hot today.
One hundred degrees and
Rising.
But the wind is cold,
Where you stand,
On your mountain.
I look up to see you.
But you ignore my call.
Maybe you are just,
Too high
To hear.
A Poet’s Thoughts
If I see the world
Through words and stanzas
Poetry that lives
With its own beating heart
What do the rest see?
Am I only exposing
The truth of their eyes
And hearts
The obvious
That lies
Before us
But unspoken
Between us?
Out of the Box
Dare to dream
Strive to live
Color outside the lines
All that you are
Is you
All that you answer to
Is yourself and God.
Being all you can be is not
Being all they expect
To know your true self
Is to step outside the box
Leaping with faith.
History
Some of us
Change the times
While others
Ride the wings
And follow along
To the next beat
The next step
To what will someday
Be seen
As revolutionary.
