Sarah Crowne in front of Herman Melville’s House
Hey Readers!
I’ve had such a blast visiting Historic Writer homes in my column The Write Life here at A Busy Lady.
Recently, I visited both Herman Melville’s home and Harriet Beecher Stowe.
Here’s a pic of me in Melville’s study. Did you know he was good friends with Nathaniel Hawthorne? In fact, Hawthorne had his own bedroom just off this room for when he stayed with Melville’s family for the night!
I also recently visited Harriet Beecher Stowe’s home in Hartford, CT. Did you know she was an artist too? Also, in light of spooky season, I learned that she held seances in this room! She sadly lost two children and worried they hadn’t made it to heaven. She held the seances to try to find out.
Not only that, but I learned that Harriet Beecher Stowe first published Uncle Tom’s Cabin chapter by chapter in The National Era, an abolitionist newspaper in 1851. Every chapter except the last one was published in The National Era. Why? Because you had to buy the book to read the rest!
In honor of Stowe (and all the writer homes I’ve visited so far), I am thrilled to announce that to read more about these adventures, I am releasing my latest book, Rebel Writers: The Genius Behind the Pen, coming November 1st!
This is the first book in the Rebel Writer’s Series, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you!
Both paperback and eBook versions will be available November 1st on Amazon (including KDP Select). It will also be available at Barnes & Noble, Bookshop.org and more (depending on algorithms, it might take a day or two past November 1 to show up on these platforms)! You can also purchase direct by contacting me direct:
I hope to have copies available for purchase as well at my upcoming event at the Old Deerfield Holiday Sampler Show in West Springfield, Mass on November 16th and 17th.
